Tiger Maple Wood and Tiger Maple Lumber is classified as a Domestic wood and is also referred to as, flamed maple, curly maple, ripple maple, fiddleback maple or tiger stripe maple.The pattern of Tiger Maple is created by the growth of the wood fibers which gives it it’s distorted undulating chatoyant pattern, producing wavy lines known as “flames”. This pattern is called “figure”, since the distortion of the pattern is perpendicular to the grain direction. Tiger maple is highly prized for its beautiful appearance, and it is used for making musical instruments, such as violins and bassoons, and fine furniture. This tiger stripe figure can be found in soft or hard maple. Tiger Maple has a Janka hardness rating of: 1450.
