Mahogany Wood and Mahogany Lumber

Mahogany Wood or Mahogany Lumber is classified as an Exotic wood and sometimes referred to as, Balsamo, Chirraca, Cedro chino, Cabriziva, Estoraque, Nabal, Incienso, Honduran Mahogany, and Tache. Many species of Mahogany exist and many African substitutes have arrived on market. We carry true Honduran mahogany as well as other substitute species. Mahogany can have a wide range of colors, between light orange/brown with yellowish overtones to a dark reddish/purplish brown and has an interlocked grain which attributes to its strong ribbon like pattern. Mahogany lumber can be somewhat difficult to work because of its density and must be pre-drilled when using screws or nails but can easily to a fine smooth finish. Mahogany is generally used for fine furniture making, cabinetmaking, entry doors, interior mill work, stairs and moldings and hardwood flooring. Mahogany has a Janka hardness rating of: 2200.
