Bloodwood is classified as an Exotic wood and is sometimes referred to as, Muirapiranga, Satine, Rubane, Cardinal Wood. Bloodwood heartwood varies from gray-red to a deep rich red and the grain can vary from straight to variable. It has a fine and smooth texture and is lustrous and sometimes has variegated yellow and red stripes. Bloodwood may need pre-drilling for nailing but it holds screws well, and glues, stains and polishes to a very good finish. It is most often used for cabinet making, furniture, decorative inlay, marquetry work, fancy boxes and veneers.
