Wenge Wood & Wenge Lumber

Wenge Wood or Wenge Lumber is classified as an Exotic wood and can sometimes be referred to as, Awong, Dikela, Palisandre Du Congo, Bokonge and Mibotu.
The heartwood of Wenge wood is dark brown, with very close, fine, almost black veins and because of it’s closely spaced whitish bands of parenchyma it gives Wenge wood it’s very attractive appearance, it also has a fairly straight grain with a coarse texture. Because has resin cells in the wood this can sometimes interfere with gluing but nailing can be difficult and usually requires pre-boring although when filled, it can be finished. Because of Wenge woods natural resistance to abrasion it makes this timber very suitable for flooring strips or blocks. It can also be used for both interior and exterior joinery as well as general construction work and paneling veneers. Wenge wood has a Janka hardness rating of:1320
