Ambrosia Maple Wood or Ambrosia Maple Lumber is classified as a Domestic wood and sometimes referred to as Wormy Maple of Ghost Maple. A beetle called the Ambrosia beetle is responsible for its wormy pattern in the wood and the result is a very unique looking lumber. The lumber traditionally has the sap white background found in maple and will have stripes of grey, black, or pink lines. The color in Ambrosia Maple varies making it a unique one of a kind lumber. This wormy pattern however, will not affect the lumber in any negative way. It’s gluing results can vary however it can be stained and finished with excellent results. Ambrosia Maple is used most for furniture making, paneling, veneering, joinery and Ambrosia maple flooring. Ambrosia Maple has a Janka hardness rating of 950.
