Makore Wood & Makore Lumber

Makore Wood or Makore Lumber is classified as an Exotic wood and is sometimes referred to as, Dumori, Baku, Agamokwe, Douka or African Cherry. The heartwood of Makore can vary from a pinkish-red to blood red and red-brown, it’s grain is usually straight. The wood does tends to split while nailing, but holds screws well, stains and glues well and has an excellent finish if filler is used. However, many Makore logs can have either a decorative moire pattern, or mottled, or even dark streaks to them, and it’s texture is generally uniform and fine and is lustrous. Makore is most used for furniture making, cabinetwork, high-class joinery, lab benches, marine plywood and decorative veneers. Makore has a Janka hardness rating of: 1294.
