Makore, or African Cherry as it is sometimes referred to, has a reddish-brown to maroon color to the wood and usually has a fine straight grain.
The average Makore tree may reach a height of 180 – 200 ft. tall with a trunk sometimes up to 48" in diameter and may be free from branches for the first 100 ft. of it's height.
The tree grows in the Tropical and West Africa areas.
Woodworkers like Makore because of it's grain which produces an attractive mottled figure when finished.
Some of the other names Makore goes by are, African Cherry, Aganokwe and Baku, but it's bontanical name is (Mimusops heckelii).
Makore is most often used by woodworkers for, cabinets, furniture, interior millwork, art pieces, high end furniture, airplane cabinetry, interior panels and exterior applications.
