The Padauk tree is straight and often reaches 100 feet tall with a buttressed trunk which may be up to 48'' in diameter.
Padauk is an exotic wood that comes from South Africa, Angola, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Nigeria and Zaire, and has a bright orange or some say almost crimson wood, when it is first cut, but over time oxidizes to a darker, rich purple-brown.
It is also referred to as African Padauk, Mbe, Mbil, Mututi, Ngula and Bosulu, but it's true botanical name is Botanical: Pterocarpus soyauxii.
It is hard and heavy and has a medium texture, but with large pores.
It is typically used for, furniture making, flooring, musical instruments, turning and accessories.
